Objective: To improve foundational literacy and numeracy skills among grade 3-6 students in selected primary schools in Gedeo Zone, South Ethiopia, through the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach, ensuring enhanced academic performance and better preparedness for secondary education.
Specific Objectives:
- Increase literacy and numeracy proficiency in grades 3-6.
- Improve test scores in Local/Mother Tongue, English, and Mathematics.
- Enhance teaching practices through structured pedagogy tailored to learning levels.
- Provide targeted after-school learning support to address individual learning gaps.
Intervention Summary: Imagine1Day proposes to pilot the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach to improve foundational literacy and numeracy skills in grades 3-6 at five Costa Foundation-supported primary schools in Gedeo Zone, South Ethiopia. Targeting 3085 students, the project will enhance learning in Local/Mother Tongue, English, and Mathematics through structured pedagogy and after-school programs held five days a week for four months annually.
The pilot will be implemented in Wote and Adame Primary Schools (Yirgachefe District), Shifo and Biloya Primary Schools (Kochera District), and Basura Primary School (Bule District). By addressing critical learning gaps, the project aims to boost test scores, strengthen core skills, and build a scalable model for improved educational outcomes in Ethiopia.
