Imagine1day has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Gondar to support the implementation of the Leaders in Teaching Ethiopia (LiTE) Program, a national initiative implemented through a consortium led by Imagine1day in partnership with Education Development Trust and Geneva Global Ethiopia. The agreement marks an important milestone in the national effort to strengthen teacher education and school leadership across Ethiopia.

The Leaders in Teaching Ethiopia (LiTE) Program, implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, aims to improve learning outcomes in secondary schools nationwide by strengthening teacher effectiveness, school leadership, and continuous professional development (CPD). The program seeks to increase the number of students progressing to universities and TVET institutions while equipping young people with the skills and competencies needed for dignified employment opportunities.

The MoU outlines a shared commitment to:

  • Support the implementation of the Leaders in Teaching Ethiopia (LiTE) Program, with a focus on teacher training, continuous professional development (CPD), school leadership, and recognition of excellence in teaching.
  • Strengthen pre-service and in-service teacher education in alignment with national education priorities and frameworks.
  • Build the institutional capacity of universities as long-term centers of excellence for teacher and school leadership development.
  • Promote gender equity, with particular emphasis on increasing women’s participation in educational leadership roles.
  • Ensure sustainability by integrating program components into university systems and structures.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Seid Aman, CEO of Imagine1day, emphasized the strategic importance of partnering with one of Ethiopia’s leading universities to advance the shared vision of ensuring all Ethiopian children have access to quality education by 2045. He noted that the LiTE Program is a major national initiative designed to strengthen teaching and leadership in secondary schools while improving pathways to higher education, TVET, and future employment.

            

Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, President of the University of Gondar, highlighted the university’s commitment to academic excellence, community service, research, and capacity building. He expressed confidence that the partnership would significantly improve educational quality and expand opportunities for future collaboration.

Dr. Fanta Mandefro, Director of the LiTE Program Management Unit, emphasized the shared commitment of both institutions to community impact and educational transformation. He emphasized the importance of fostering motivation, purpose, and leadership among teachers and school leaders to drive lasting improvements in student learning and school performance.

The University of Gondar joins a growing network of higher education institutions collaborating on the Leaders in Teaching Ethiopia (LiTE) Program. Imagine1day has previously signed similar MoUs with Madda Walabu University, Arsi University, Mekelle University, Aksum University, Arba Minch University, Wolaita Sodo University, Semera University, Bahir Dar University, Debre Berhan University, and Wollo University to support the implementation of the program across targeted secondary schools in Ethiopia.
